Im moving to Ash
Mill in the near future will i be able to get broadband if yes have you any idea of the best I S provider for that area
The whole of Devon
should be able to get Broadband now, but we understand there may be
problems if you live very far from the nearest Exchange.
If, as seems likely, you
are on the BISHOPS NYMPTON Exchange you should be able to have BT
Broadband with a likely maximum speed of up to 2.5Mb (Megabits per
second).- see http://www.bt.com/broadband/bb_availability_result.jsp
- at the bottom of the
page you can put your 'phone number or postcode in to check availability,
(when you know it)
We cannot
promote any ISP, but have heard good things about BT and bad about Tiscali.
We would be interested to learn how things work out for you. Frank

08 Oct 2005 Im moving to Tiverton in Devon soon i have
been told i cant get broadband is this true . i am getting it at the
moment where i live in Leeds and it will be rather disapointing if i cant
get it , what other posibilitys is there .
We
understand that you can get Broadband in and around Tiverton, but it may
depend on which ISP you use. We have not heard anything of AOL, but
Eclipse and BT have been supplying Broadband. Best of luck. Please let us
know how you get on. |

Yesterday, my broadband order was completed
:) Just thought I'd let you know. Cheers Dave
I
am glad to hear that your Broadband order was completed. I do hope
you don't have any of the hiccups that other people have had, most of
which turned out to be Filters that didn't work properly. |

We moved to Tiverton on the 4th August
2005.Before moving we checked to see if broadband was enabled here and it
was. BUT we still can't get broadband because there is no spare capacity
in the exchange !! Has anyone else got this problem or is there another
solution to this problem other than waiting ? We are use to using
broadband at our previous address and miss it enormously !
We are sorry to hear
that the Tiverton Exchange is, again, oversubscribed. Are there many
people waiting? Does anyone have a solution to the prolblem?
Please e-mail Webmaster@Mid-Devon.Net and

On
asking around, people have been able to get Broadband on the
Tiverton Exchange, from BT or Eclipse, at the same time as others have
been denied. We understand that some ISPs are less able to offer
Broadband than others.
Mid-Devon.Net
is not intending to promote any one supplier over another, but it
has to be said that Eclipse is able to offer Broadband, even in
Tiverton, they have a very good reputation as being reliable, they are
local, and you get a real person when you phone. You can find
Eclipse at http://www.eclipse.net.uk/ |

I am about to move to Tiverton. Does
Tiverton now have Broadband? thanks
If
you are moving to Tiverton Town itself you will be able to get Broadband. There
are many suppliers offering Broadband, and Mid-Devon.Net does
not intend to promote any one supplier over another, so you should make
your own enquiries before deciding to purchase services from any one
particular supplier.
However,
having said that, we do know of many people who live in Tiverton who are
using BT Broadband and do not have any problems. From information we
have it seems most likely that you will be able to get up to 1Mbps, and
may even be able to get 2Mbps, in Tiverton. If you are moving to
somewhere outside Tiverton, but quite near to it, you should also be
lucky.
We
have to say that we have had reports of problems with Tiscali,
particularly further away from Broadband Enabled Exchanges.
You

by Mid-Devon District Council on www.middevon.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1467.
If there is anything else we can do to help please let us know. |

Hi. On yr web page you quote "No More
Distance Limits for 512 Kbps ADSL Broadband" I'm only a couple of
miles from Cullompton but because of a circuitous routing, our phone line
is over 8 kms long. BT have said in the last three months that I can't get
broadband, this after an engineer visit. Have things changed recently?
Where does it say about the line length being no problem so that I can
challenge BT. Any other suggestion would be appreciated. I'm looking at
the possibility of satellite at the moment. Very expensive! Rgds Nick
I am really sorry
to hear that you are having problems getting Broadband. BT sent an
e-mail to all of us who had campaigned to get it, and the items shown are
direct quotes from that e-mail which was received just before the 18th
August, 2004. No recent changes that we are aware of. They
certainly show Cullompton as being able to receive Broadband in their map
- which can be seen at http://www.middevon.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1467.
Please feel free to quote from their e-mail:-
August 2004
The remaining
gaps in the Broadband Britain jigsaw are getting smaller and smaller"
1)
No More Distance Limits for 512 Kbps ADSL Broadband
2) 1 Mbps ADSL Broadband extended to reach 6 km (3.7284 miles)
3) By Summer 2005 Broadband wherever you can get good TV you
will be able to get Broadband
4) BT still working on new technology for the very few
who still cannot get Broadband |

Equating 3 miles with 6km is dodgy maths. I
don't know if this is you or BT? Actually, 3 mile = 4.828032 km. I believe
the current BT ADSL technology reaches about 5.5km at 1 MBPS, so 6km is
nearer the truth. These facts are important to us because we live in Zeal
Monachorum, and it is several km from the Bow exchange which was broadband
enabled this week. I ordered today!! Cheers, Tony Dunlop
I
do apologise. Maths is not my best subject. BT had said 6 km
and I am told that 6km = 3.7284 miles. I shall amend all mention of
3 miles to 3.7284 miles. Best of luck with Broadband. |

Re your email of 3rd December. To let you
know my current situation. Broadband came to us on 23rd February and I
made application to join on 24th. I had been with Tiscali which had not
got 'best buy' from Which? but I thought I would stick with them re email
address and less hassle. I went for their 'biggest' one and got
acknowledgments and a 10 day wait. Yesterday evening (after about 9 days
and no warning) I lost all internet connection but restored this morning
with a message from them saying I was too far from our automatic exchange.
Their information says it should work within 3 1/2 kms and I am 1 1/2 kms.
So I await the outcome of their offer for lesser packages. They say 256 or
512Kbps 'may' be supported and I am concerned that they should know that
already from their tests. I still constantly get cut off and have to
reconnect at least once an hour. If you like I will let you know when I am
connected and the result. Cheers, Brian Blackman
I
am really sorry to hear that you have had so many problems. BT gave
us 2 weeks warning, and there was only a half hour break in service -
easily disposed of with a cup of tea. I don't know why Tiscali
cannot give you a decent connection when you are so close to your
exchange. I know a family who have Tiscali and they have had no
problems at all.
Without wishing to recommend anyone, I have myself fared better with BT.
We are 4 kms from our Crediton Fitzpaine exchange and we currently have
1Mb Broadband without any problems, but they were unable to upgrade us to
2Mb. Experts told me that I needed a Filter Box in each phone
socket, (or on the end of each bit of wire coming from the phone socket),
and this has solved our intermittent disconnection problems.
I have spoken to an expert in the Council and he said that they have used
Eclipse and had no major problems with Broadband, only minor ones in the
matter of Filter boxes. He suggests that you try a different make of
Filter box, as this has fixed the problem where he has experienced it.
Have you been in touch with the Witheridge web site http://www.witheridge-devon.com/
to see if anyone else in the area has had more luck? And, if so,
which company they have gone with.
If you try a different Filter box, do please let us know if it helps or
not, or if you find any way of resolving your problems. I have my
fingers crossed that it all gets sorted out for you. |

I live in Witheridge and I will get Broadband next February. Currently
not an evening goes by when my connection cuts out on more than one
occasion and it redials. My problem is that if it is on 24/7 will I get
the dialling up noise if the connection is broken at all hours? Thank you
for your advice. B Blackman
Dear Brian,
Thanks for
your query. No, you will not get the "dialling up noise"
when the connection is broken because Broadband is "always on".
You will get a Reconnect dialogue box appear and you should be able
to reconnect without difficulty. Of course, if you have chosen to
disconnect the Broadband connection and / or turned off your computer,
there will be no noise.
I am on the
Cheriton Fitzpaine Exchange and I had no problems while on Dial Up.
Unfortunately, now that I have Broadband I am getting much the same
problem that you are having now - it cuts out at apparently random times
during the day, although it does seem to be more stable during the evening
and at weekends. BT seem unable to fix this glitch.
Do please
let us know what happens when you get Broadband.
Does anyone have any technical knowledge about this, or any way of
avoiding these problems? |

Hi, my name is John maxwell and I recently founded 'safe-2-surf' in
Tiverton. Broadband is gerat news for Mid devon, - WELL DONE!! We
specialise in PC health checking and anti-virus protection for the home
and office. Broadband is a very big part of my life, but please ensure
that your protection is water tight before connecting as the risk of
attack from malware and spyware goes up in line with your increased
enjoyment! A bit of preventative maintenance now can save a whole load of
pain later.
Thank you for the reminder |
