Chulmleigh
Old Fair
www.chulmleigh.org/
Tuesday 22nd to
Saturday 26th July 2008 - Chulmleigh
Old Fair
Chulmleigh Devon EX18
From 6.30 pm Tuesday
Chulmleigh
Old Fair has taken place every year since King Henry III granted a Royal
Charter to the Town in 1253. Even
during the darkest days of two world wars, Chulmleigh managed to
maintain this historic event.
The
fair always starts at 6.30pm, on the Tuesday evening following the 22nd
July. The opening of the fair is followed by the ancient money
scramble, although the coins are no longer heated until red hot!
A
large white glove symbolising, the King’s gauntlet, is paraded through
the town by the Chief Herald, before being displayed from the Town Hall
throughout the Fair which ends at midnight Saturday. There
is a different programme of events each day
Wednesday
23rd is the main Fair Day. A country and craft market, with about 60
stalls is held in the streets. FREE car parking nearby, also Sheep
Show, Dog Show, Vintage Vehicles and Flower Show.
Chulmleigh
Old Fair is run by a committee of volunteers, with any profits used to
keep admission charges to a minimum and to provide the generous money
prizes which are awarded to those taking part in various events and
competitions. Many events are FREE.
A
Heritage Lottery grant enabled an archive to be created to record the
history of the Fair. It contains over 1500 photographs in the,
allegedly, biggest scrapbook in the world, and is a good source for
those researching their family and local history.
FREE
admission to the archive at Chulmleigh Library - visit www.devon.gov.uk/libraries
for normal library opening hours.

Crediton
Farmers Market
www.creditonfarmersmarket.com/
Saturday 5th July 2008 - Crediton Farmers Market
Market Square Crediton Devon EX17
10 am - 1 pm
Held on the first
Saturday of every month between 10 am and 1 pm, Crediton Farmers'
Market takes place on the new Market Square in
Crediton, which was designed and built with the market in mind.
With a wide range of
organic and conventional produce available, including meat, fish,
seasonal fruit and vegetables, dairy products, cakes,
plants, apple juice, cider,
pottery, cards and woven baskets, and with
virtually all stallholders living less than 5
miles from the market, Crediton has one of the
most local farmers' markets in the county.
Although
we do have to occasionally look further afield in order to keep the
market as fresh and interesting as possible, produce does not travel
more than around 30 miles at most, and the result is one of the finest
farmer's markets in the county, a fact recognised by the readers
of Devon Life magazine who recently voted Crediton Farmers' Market Best
Market of the Year for the second time in three years.

Saturday 5th July 2008 - Crediton Farmers Market
Crediton holds a Farmers
Market on the first Saturday of each month. This is becoming so popular
that people are travelling from miles around to attend them. In 2004 it
is hoped to extend these and to increase the frequency to meet the local
and seasonal demands. They supply a wide range of organic vegetables,
meats, preserves, cheese and other locally produced foods together with
local crafts. In between, our High Street shops regularly provide a
great variety of local and regionally produced foods. www.creditonfarmersmarket.com/

Psychic Nights

www.psychic-nights.co.uk
Friday 25th July 2008
- An Evening of Clairvoyance with T J Higgs
New Hall Barrington Street Tiverton Devon EX16 6QP
Doors Open 7.30 pm, Show 8 pm
Celebrity
clairvoyant takes to Tiverton stage again! The
country’s leading female psychic medium will be back in Tiverton in
July, following a sell-out appearance in November.
TJ
Higgs has become a celebrity psychic following a career of accurate
predictions and readings, TV appearances and stage tours across the UK.
She is a star of television’s ‘Psychic Private Eyes’ investigating
unsolved crimes alongside well-known mediums Colin Fry and Tony
Stockwell. She
describes her mediumship as a natural gift that she has nurtured since
childhood, and devotes her career not just to television and the media
but to psychic development, workshops and lectures.
“This
year has been a busy one touring the country with Colin Fry performing
to crowds of up to 3,500 people,” she said. “I rarely have the
opportunity to perform in Devon, and I’m greatly looking forward to
coming to Tiverton again.” In
November, the New Hall sold out and the full house thoroughly
appreciated the readings on stage. She describes herself as the ‘comedium”,
and uses humour to relax the audience.
She
takes the stage performances as seriously as one-to-one readings, and is
highly aware of the emotions and sensitivity of the guests who attend
her public performances, delivering readings that comfort people about
friends and relatives who may have passed away. “It is not uncommon
for people to have a loved one who passed over in tragic
circumstances,” she explained. “ It’s rewarding to help reassure
them that people’s lives have meaning and carry on.”
Among
TJ Higgs’ public achievements are appearances on Richard & Judy
giving a crystal reading on Charles and Camilla’s wedding, correctly
predicting the top 3 on ITV’s X Factor, being reported for a
life-saving prediction by the Daily Express.
Advance
tickets are available for £10 by calling 01884 255823, email info@psychic-nights.co.uk
or at the website www.psychic-nights.co.uk.

Wellington Food Fair
& Festival

Saturday 5th to Sunday
6th July 2008 - Wellington Food Fair & Festival
Wellington School Wellington Somerset TA21
Wellington
– A melting pot of flavours
The 2008 Wellington Food Town is a two day food extravaganza that
is putting Wellington firmly on the map as the food destination
of the South West. This rapidly growing and vibrant event is showcasing
the best food and drink producers - and all that this beautiful English
town offers with its excellent food outlets and eateries.
Following the huge
success of last year’s event which attracted an estimated 10,000
visitors, the event in July this year has been expanded to a full
two-day interactive festival and fair, held within the grounds of the
prestigious Wellington School

Farmers' markets give
food producers and farmers the opportunity to sell their produce
directly to the public. Farmers markets and community supported
agricultural projects are growing in number and popularity across the
country. Buying directly helps provide social, economic and
environmental benefits for everyone, providing a local social event,
valuable income for smaller producers, and reducing food miles.
Wellington is fortunate to have both a monthly farmers' market and the
more regular Wellington Market. Wellington Market is open
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The contact number for
Wellington Market is 01952 242019
