Crediton Farmers Market
www.creditonfarmersmarket.com/

Saturday 2nd August 2008 - Crediton Farmers Market
Market Square Crediton Devon EX17
10 am - 1 pm

Held on the first Saturday of every month between 10 am and 1 pm, Crediton Farmers' Market takes place on the new Market Square in Crediton, which was designed and built with the market in mind.

With a wide range of organic and conventional produce available, including meat, fish, seasonal fruit and vegetables, dairy products, cakes, plants, apple juice, cider, pottery, cards and woven baskets, and with virtually all stallholders living less than 5 miles from the market, Crediton has one of the most local farmers' markets in the county.

Although we do have to occasionally look further afield in order to keep the market as fresh and interesting as possible, produce does not travel more than around 30 miles at most, and the result is one of the finest farmer's markets in the county, a fact recognised by the readers of Devon Life magazine who recently voted Crediton Farmers' Market Best Market of the Year for the second time in three years.

Friday 29th August 2008 - Open Mic Session
The Lamb Inn Sandford Crediton Devon EX17

Fed up with having nowhere to perform? Looking for fresh opportunities to perform locally with like-minded people? Then the CRAMP Open Mic Sessions are designed with you in mind.

The sessions - which take place on the last Friday of each month at The Lamb Inn, Sandford, near Crediton (8pm-11pm) - have been running since April 2005, and they just keep getting better and better.  With people coming from as far afield as Totnes, Newton Abbot, Honiton and Tiverton each month, the word is spreading rapidly. But don't just take our word for it, come and experience it for yourself! Novices, as well as experienced performers of all ages and abilities welcome; just turn up and tell us how and what you would like to perform.

So, whether you’re a solo singer/songwriter, a folk duo, a sitar player, a musician looking for a band, a poet, a storyteller, or simply a keen fan of live original music, come and join us at the next session!

Okehampton Show - a great day out

Thursday 14th August 2008 - 102nd Okehampton Show
Stoney Park Showground Okehampton Devon EX20
9 am

The 102nd Okehampton Show will take place on Thursday 14th August. In a spectacular setting on the northern slopes of Dartmoor, it's a wonderful day out at a traditional agricultural show with a great deal to see and do throughout the day.

The Show opens to the public at 9am, and Car Parking is free.  A courtesy bus service runs from Okehampton (outside Flower Pot / Boots the Chemist) to the Showground commencing at 10:00. The service runs throughout the day

As the show was cancelled in 2007 everyone involved is very much looking forward to the 14th August. It takes a lot of hard work by a team of dedicated helpers to put on this terrific day out - we know it is all worthwhile because people have taken the trouble to write and say how much they have enjoyed themselves at past shows

Come along and see for yourself - it's lots of fun!

Uffculme
Coldharbour Mill

Coldhabour Mill
www.coldharbourmill.org.uk/

August 2008 - Steam-Up

Steam-Up is when all of the mill steam engines will be in operation powered by steam from our 1910 Galloways Boiler. The main engine that will be running is a very rare 300 horse power Pollit & Wigzell mill engine which dates from 1910. This used to power all the factory's machinery until closure in 1981 and is a very spectacular sight to see, especially the massive fly-wheel, called the rope race, than turns the cotton ropes. The ropes go up to each floor of the mill and would have driven the line shafts inside the mill which in turn would have been driven the textile machinery via leather belts. We also have an 1867 Kittoe and Brotherhood Beam Engine and a inverted single cylinder Marshall engine that used to provide electric lighting in the mill.

All in in all its a very exciting family day out and you don't have to be a steam enthusiast to enjoy the sights and sounds! Also, the 1821 water wheel will be turning, the widest wheel in England still turning and restored in June 2005.

Farmers' markets give food producers and farmers the opportunity to sell their produce directly to the public. Farmers markets and community supported agricultural projects are growing in number and popularity across the country. Buying directly helps provide social, economic and environmental benefits for everyone, providing a local social event, valuable income for smaller producers, and reducing food miles.

Wellington is fortunate to have both a monthly farmers' market and the more regular Wellington Market. Wellington Market is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The contact number for Wellington Market is 01952 242019

16th annual celebration of left-handers superiority!! All year round, we fit in with home and office layouts designed for right-handers’ comfort – put up with doors, cookers, sinks, computer mice, keyboards and desks that are efficient for right-handers to work at, and hundreds of times every day we contort ourselves using back-to-front tools and gadgets that make us look clumsy and awkward in our efforts to make them to work…

But NOT TODAY! Because on this special day, it is your chance to GET YOUR OWN BACK on your right-handed friends colleagues and family, by designating your personal space as a LEFTY ZONE where
