Champagne

2007 - BT Home Hub is available to most of Mid-Devon, some at lesser speeds than others

15th November 2005 - We hear that BT is arranging for the last two - Rackenford and Clayhanger  -  Exchanges in Mid-Devon to be upgraded to offer Broadband next year, 2006, also Filleigh close by.  This should mean that the whole of Devon and Somerset can have Broadband, apart from a few farms and hamlets deep on the moors more than 10 km from their Exchange.  They say 99.99% of homes across the South West should then be able to get Broadband.

Broadband4Devon would like to hear from anyone who is still not able to get Broadband - see www.broadband4devon.org.uk/, e-mail reception@broadband4devon.org.ukor 'phone 01752 333 800 or 0845 2702727

16th September 2005 - We are told that BT is able to offer Broadband in Tiverton, as is Eclipse.
Mid-Devon.Net is not intending to promote any one supplier over another, but  it has to be said that Eclipse is able to offer Broadband, even  in Tiverton, they have a very good reputation as being reliable, they are local, and you get a real person when you phone.  You can find Eclipse at http://www.eclipse.net.uk/

8th September 2005 - We hear that the Tiverton Exchange is, again, not able to offer Broadband because too many people want it!  People who moved to Tiverton at the beginning of August ask:-  Has anyone else got this problem?  Is there another solution?  E-mail us at Webmaster@Mid-Devon.Net

4th September 2005 - We hear that some people in Crediton cannot have Broadband, even if they are close to their Exchange

February 2005 - BT announces Faster Broadband for  BT Customers - if you have  1 Mb  BT will upgrade you to 2 Mb for free! (if technically possible).  See www.btplc.com/Innovation/News/faster.htm.

26th January 2005 - BT announces that too many people have asked for Broadband on the Tiverton Exchange and they cannot connect any more lines until 23rd February, 2005.

18 August 2004 -  More news from BT - Broadband will now reach homes and businesses further away from their Exchange than before, because they have now worked out new ways of improving the Exchanges.   "The remaining gaps in the Broadband Britain jigsaw are getting smaller and smaller"

1)  No More Distance Limits for 512 Kbps ADSL Broadband
2)  1 Mbps ADSL Broadband extended to reach 6 km (3.7284 miles)
3)  By Summer 2005 Broadband wherever you can get good TV
4)  BT still working on new technology for the very few who still cannot get Broadband

1)  Where, before, BT had said that anyone further than 3.7284 miles or 6 km from a Broadband Enabled Exchange would have to wait, there is now no limit on how far away from the Exchange you are, if a speed of 512 kbps is fast enough for you.  (For an explanation of speed click here to see Much Faster).  You may need a visit from a BT Engineer, but BT have said that they will not charge for this.

2)  If you want the faster speed of 1 Mbps you will still need to be within 3.7284 miles or 6 km of your Exchange.  (For an explanation of speed click here to see Much Faster).

3) BT say that by Summer 2005, BT Broadband should be available if you can get the four main TV Channels - they say if you can "get good quality analogue TV signals for the 4 main terrestrial channels", you should be able to get Broadband - in other words, if you can watch BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 or Channel 4 without that snow on the screen and without using a Digital Box, you should be able to get Broadband.

4)  BT also say that they are still working with other people on new technology to bring Broadband to the very small number of people who will still not be able to get it for various reasons.

23 July 2004 - Well, as far as I can tell every Exchange in Mid-Devon, except two, now have a date when they will be upgraded to offer us Broadband.  Bampton was the last date give - 27th May, 2005 - which only leaves Rackenford and Clayhanger without.  BT has said that these two are "Unviable" Exchanges.  (Won't make them a profit if they spend the money!)  What can we do to help them?  Any ideas?  Did I miss any?  Please let me know e-mail me at Webmaster@Mid-Devon.Net.

30th June 2004 - Almost every Exchange has now been given a Date when they will be upgraded to offer Broadband.

See what your date is by clicking on Exchange Dates or put your phone number into or BT Broadband.

27th April 2004 - BT have been so pleased by the huge numbers of us asking for Broadband that they are now promising that almost all of us will be able to have Broadband by next summer at the latest!

They say that 99.6% of UK homes and businesses will be within reach of a Broadband Enabled Exchange by no later than summer 2005.

All Exchanges that have reached their Trigger Point, (or reached within 90% of it), will, within the next few weeks, be given a date when BT will upgrade the Exchange to offer Broadband.

Those Exchanges who have been given a Trigger Point, (but have not yet reached 90%), will, by the end of June 2004, have been told what their date will be.

A few of the very smallest Exchanges, those that never had a Trigger Point set, should be given other options to choose from says BT - for example, Community Broadband, Wireless or Satellite.  Please let us know if your Exchange is one of these so everyone can continue to fight for a solution for it.

To see how your Exchange is doing see Exchange List or

www.bt.com/broadband/ - click on Where I Live (top right) then select South West Region then look under Exchange Trigger Levels to "click here for full list of exchanges".

Those phones that are on a Broadband Enabled Exchange but cannot get it because they are too far away from the Exchange will be pleased to hear that BT is extending the reach, see:-

http://www.btplc.com/Innovation/Strategy/breach/index.htm

If you would like to have Broadband you can order it in advance, as soon as your Exchange is given a date, and get it the very same day that your Exchange is Ready for Service, (RFS).
